The urban space in Berlin-Mitte has changed dramatically since the 1990s. It has become a symbol of gentrification, a hub for commercial galleries, an investment property, and a backdrop for tourists. The program sequence on the spot examines these processes of exploitation and displacement—as well as the artistic strategies used to circumvent them. Combining exhibition, performance, and discourse, on the spot brings together contemporary perspectives and archival material to explore the speculations and fictions with which a place is charged.
