Screening: Stadt als Beute [City as Prey], 2005

22.11.2025, 8 PM

Miriam Dehne, Esther Gronenborn, Irene von Alberti

Screening: Stadt als Beute [City als Prey]

Three directors develop three astounding tales about the German capital, based on rehearsals for a play by Volksbühne playwright René Pollesch. With subtle humor and quirky realism, the film comments on the relationship between art and life. The rehearsals for Pollesch’s production of STADT ALS BEUTE, a furious collection of absurd texts and outbursts full of despair, form the common starting point for the three episodes: Marlon, a young acting student, must forget the acting rules he has just learned before he can fulfill his role. He plunges into the chaos of the city for two days and nights. Lizzy constantly stages herself, but always with failure: no money, no agency, no red carpet. In a bar, she meets the attractive call boy Julian and turns his biography into her story. Ohboy, not actually a real actor, is afraid of theater rehearsals and therefore does not take part in them. On a long walk along Potsdamer Straße, which combines all facets of Berlin, he confronts his fear of the script and, above all, of himself.
