Talk & Tour on the work of Songhak Ky with Sarnt Utamachote

24 July 2025, 6 PM

The works of Cambodian artist Songhak Ky (1950, Kandal – 2000, Berlin) were included in the exhibition as a research contribution by Sarnt Utamachote. Ky was one of the few art and design students from a communist ‘brother country’ of the GDR who came to Halle (Saale) to study at the University of Industrial Design. Ky’s works do not refer to any particular nation or origin. His steel sculptures are asymmetrical, moving between ornamental and free forms, and oscillating between figurative traces and pure abstraction.

This talk will include an introduction to Songhak Ky’s work by Sarnt Utamachote, followed by a conversation with Linda Ky, the artist’s daughter.

Beforehand, at 5:30 PM, there will be an opportunity to learn more about the exhibition DISLOACTIONS—within reach during a guided tour with curators Natalie Keppler & Agnieszka Roguski and engage in conversation. The tour will be conducted in English.
